SLEEP APNEA THERAPY
Do you suffer from daytime exhaustion, no matter how much sleep you get the night before? Are morning headaches or dry mouth common when you wake up? Has your bed partner noticed any lapses in your breathing or chronic snoring? These are all signs that you could be struggling with sleep apnea, a potentially dangerous condition that's characterized by constant sleep disruptions. At North Court Family Dentistry, Dr. Michael Freeman and Dr. Emily Dennison offer guidance and therapy for sleep apnea so you can finally get back to enjoying a worry-free night's sleep. Plus, our Circleville, OH office now offers free sleep apnea screens during every six-month check-up!
WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?
OSA, or Obstructive Sleep Apnea, is caused by the patient's airway being partially or completely blocked during sleep. Normally, the throat remains open allowing air to pass through. If the muscles in the throat are too relaxed, the tissues can collapse over the airway. This can cause the patient to stop breathing altogether, which cause the brain to send out an emergency signal for you to wake up and readjust. While this consciousness may only last fora few seconds, you can experience these interruptions to your sleep hundreds of times each night, which prevents the deep rest patients need.
TREATMENT OPTIONS
The treatment options depend on the severity of your case. While many patients with moderate sleep apnea use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure system (CPAP) that pushes air through their nasal passages during sleep, others find this process tedious and disruptive. Working with your physician, our doctors are happy to offer customized oral appliances as an alternative if applicable.
